I just came back from an event we co-organize between Venture Watch Research and Actualidad Economica. Sadly, I couldn’t make it. Security at the Unidad Editorial building wouldn’t let me trough the gate. Apparently, we weren’t on the list, and they couldn’t get hold of anyone to verify our identities. After a 25 minute wait, I turned away from the gate and went home.
I’m getting fed up with this situation.
It’s not the first time it takes me 30min to clear the entry of a building. Another notorious “Hall” is Wayra Spain’s Gran Via building.
You know what? I’m sick of it. I’m tired of being treated like a criminal, like a thief, like a cattle. Arguing with security is useless. They know you. They’ve seen you before. They know you’re right to be annoyed. Even so, they won’t let you go through. Not until someone from the mothership claims you.
The funny thing is that when you tell your hosts about the “incident,” they brush it off. “It’s always the same here, not just you”, “It happens to us all the time”, “It’s the way it is”.
Well, let me tell you something, you’re wrong. The system is wrong. When you invite someone to your place, you don’t make them go through a rectum check. FULL STOP. It’s more than enough that we have to be humiliated at the airport.
For all the corporate smart asses out there. You want us to help you? Do you want to work with us? Do you want to hear our opinions? Fix your building security process. Treat guests like guests, not like cattle. Treat your employees as human beings, not like thieves.
There is a clear correlation between the security process and the fate of these companies. Show us you can do better. Don’t ignore the problem; fucking FIX it.
